Dihedral Written by Pamela

Dihedral is the angle between an aircraft supporting surface (as a wing) and a horizontal transverse line.
Dihedral is basically the little space between the wings of a plane or kite.
It is the angle on a plane's wing because it is the part where the wing and the plane are attached together so that is the angle (Dihedral).
For example: this is a plane Dihedral:

Another Example: A kite Dihedral:
It is just like a plane just that a kite is an aircraft consisting of many wings tethered to an anchor system and a plane is a powered flying vehicle with fixed wings.

Kite Body Parts. Written by Jaselle

This kite is a Winged Box kite. I know this because this kite has four parellal struts, its made with diagnal struts and there are two sails or ribbons. The ribbons wrap around the ends of the box. Another reason i know this is because the picture looks like it has wings and also has boxes in the middle ofT the kite.
Inline image 2 This is a Diamond kite. I know this is a Diamond kite, because a Diamond kite has two parallel sides also because the kite itself is shaped like a diamond. Diamond kites don't have to have a certain design or color to make it that certain typeof kite.
Inline image 1This kite is a Delta kite. I know that this kite is a delta kite because I know that it has two curves at the bottom of the kite.
Also because at the top of the kite it has,a point and two parallel sides going down towards the curves.
Inline image 3This kite is called a Box kite. They call it a Box kite because the whole kite is shaped as two boxes. Also because they line up the rods to be shaped as squares. One last reason is because its not just squares in ones place, its all around the kite.
Inline image 4This kite is called a Sled kite. They call this kite the Sled kite because the kite itself just looks like a sled. Also because while the kite is in the sky it basically glide along with the wind, like a sled would if it was going down a hill. Also because the is a little curved at the top so it looks like a sled from the bottom.

How mathematics deals with kites in a way. Written by Trent

The mathematics behind kite building are a lot of things. The first reason that math is involved with building a kite is because you need to measurement of  how long certain pieces of fabric or materials need  to be. Another way that math is involved with kites is that you have to sometimes calculate the distance of witch a kite can be flown up to, that would be considered finding out the altitude. Also it involves math because you need to be able to find the surface of cloth, that would be considered finding the area. It also does because  you need to do the act or process of changing from one to another, that would be known as the conversion.

The Physics/Science behind the structure of a kite. Written by Jaselle

The Physics behind the kite making process is very difficult. In order for you to make a kite you have to take the measurement to find out how much material you need, for that certain part.In kite making there is also angles that you have to recognize and be able to tell what kind of angle it is and why. As you can see, math takes a lot of part in this case. This is why you need to be able to do the math and understand it as well. Keep reading to find out how science can also take part in this activity as well.

How we made our kite.Written by Jaselle

Have you ever made a kite from scratch? Building a kite from scratch can be very difficult. For example, if your main idea doesn't work then you need a back up plain. And that is exactly what occurred to me and my group. We were going to make our kite out of fabric so we painted the fabric white and the paint went through so we,decided to throw that sheet of fabric out. Our back up plain was to use a clear big garbage bag.So that's what we did.
We cut the garbage bag into the shape of a sled kite, because that's the style of kite that we are doing. We took 5 skinny rods to hold the kite in place and also to give it a 3-D shape. Then we taped the rods onto the kite. We used double-sided tape to hold the kite in place so,the parts won't go flying everywhere. We are next going to paint our kite blue as a background then we are going to draw a minion sitting on a floating cloud. Then we are going to use a thin piece of string to fly our kite.

Our decision on our theme! Written by Trent

The reason that we chose the design of a sled kite is because we wanted to choose something that was big but was not to much. A reason that I like this kite in particular was because since we chose the theme minions we needed to have something that would make people say WOW! One other reason that my group chose to make a sled kite is because if we used that type of design then it would be easier for other people to see the picture that we will have on it witch in our case will be a Minion!!!

The body part's of a kite that I learned. Written by Trent

Inline image 1Now even though there is the fun of making a kite there are still certain parts that I think you should know.
brindle- A line attached to each side of a kite and also attached to a brindle ring.
fittings-The process of cutting and shaping parts on a custom.
line- A long narrow mark on an surface.
sail- A large piece of strong cloth that is connected to a ship or boat.
spars- A stout rounded usually wood or metal piece used to support rigging.
tail- provides stability.
tow point- When the flying line attaches to the kites bridle.
spreader-The spar that goes across a kite to have its width.
spine- The middle pole or spar of a kite that keeps it straight.
keel- A structural element.
And these are the vocabulary words.

The Amazing Kite History

The history of kites actually starts from a long time ago in China. At first they were just used as flying object that were played with by people. But over the years they began to become used in many different ways. Even though kites were known in China they were also known in the South Sea Islands. Fisherman would use kites to put bait on their tails and then put a net on it and try to catch the fish. Another fact about the history of kites was that the military used kites also they used them as gunnery targets.

LIFT VS. GRAVITY!!!

As you might know in order to have a successful kite it must lift and the gravity must work with  it. Now usually I would not be the one to say anything but if your kite isnt good with gravity then most likely it will NOT fly. The reason that it would not fly is because if the kite is to heavy then when it goes up the gravity would be quick to bring it down. But if the kite is light then the kite would even out kind of with the gravity. I guess what I am trying to say that is that if it was lift vs. gravity trying to see who would most likely make the kite go down GRAVITY would most likely win.

The Great History Of Kites. Written by: Pamela Molina

Kites have different parts just like us humans. We have body parts so do kites but their body parts are different than ours. Well lets see lets compare.

First a kite has a spine and we have a spine so might be alike and different in some ways. So now lets see ok it has a stand off. Do we have a standoff? No we don't. There goes one difference.

A standoff is These are the fine thin spars of full carbon that push the sail backwards. Thanks to these, the sail gets its shape and volume.

Cross:The central-T is used to connect the lower spreaders to the spine. To prevent wear and tear to the sail, the opening in the sail has a fortification around it.

Tip:The bottom part of the leading edge, provided with an end cap to tension the sail.

Leading edge:The long part of the kite that runs from the nose down to the tip. Connectors are provided on the leading edges to connect the upper spreader and the lower spreader at the precise spot on the kite.

Upper spreader:(top cross) The horizontal spar that keeps the distance between the leading edges on the top part of the kite.

Nose:The top-part of the kite. This has extra fortification to prevent the spine or spars to tear the fabric.Bridle:Is the set of lines that is knotted to the frame, it allows us to steer the kite.

Nose bag:Sits underneath the nose-fortification and is a piece of doubly-folded Dacron that is glued on the top of the kite. On the backside of the sail we put the spine into the nosebag.

Spine tunnel:Is a piece of hard Velcro that is glued and sewed onto the sail below the central-T to keep the spine on its spot.

Yoyo stopper:In a yoyo trick, the kite has to turn in the vertical axis and roll itself up into the lines. While doing so, the lines glide over the leading edges. Thanks to the yoyo stoppers the flying lines are caught in the right spot, allowing the kite to remain steerable.and these are the parts of a kite.

As you can see a kite has body parts but they are not like ours.

Goal Setter - By Trent

My team goal is just really to try my best and have fun. This is my goal because since this is something new that I am trying, I am going to make the best simply because I never know if another opportunity like this will come around again. Another goal that I have is to win in at least one category. This is another goal of mine because even though I want to have fun my competetive is just waiting to win something.

History Of Kites - Written by Jaselle and Gabriel

Well let's see the history of kites, what can I pick?I got it!Maybe we should use one of the earliest accounts.Yea I'll do that. The military general Han Hsin used a kite, for a military tactic.I know what your thinking how can you develop a military tactic with a kite?Well I can answer that,he used it to calculate the distance his army had to tunnel to get threw the city's wall. This was very important to them because it let, them expand there empire The Han dynasty a dynasty that thrived from, (206 BC-220 AD) that's about 400 years and this is one of the reasons they lasted so long and why they thrived, for many years kites benefited them a lot.

Goals - Pamela

Here we are again the minionsquadkites team to day I will be showing or telling you about our goals as a group. So staye tuned and keep reading as I tell you our goals. My group and I have three goals that we will be following while designing and creating plans for our kite to accomplish our goal. These three goals are 1) We will work together and tell each other about the decisions we make based on the project and how the kite will fly. 2) We will also manage to complete the assignment given to us each day because we need to be successful but we also need to be on track with the work we get. 3) We will enjoy our time by having fun but working hard and creating our kite

Jaselle's achievements

Do you set goals for your future? I know I sure do. My goals are based on what I want to achieve in life. What are your goals based on? Your goals can be based on anything, for example, you can have goals based on your career, your grades in school or even a compition that you have among your friends in school. One of my goals that I have for my future is to be a famous actor,or even just a actor.I want to be this because its something I love.Another one of my goals is to pass my ELA and Math state exams. These are my goals that one day i hope to achieve. Feel free to tell me your goals,I wanna know what you would like to achieve in the future as well.

Goals - Gabriel

Well let me think what should my goal be? I got it my goal is to... with my team of course is to get the kite to fly the highest to win the highest flying kite.We will also try to get the most Eco-friendly kite.We aim for these goals because they seem challenging and if we can achieve them then it will make us more confident. We will use light material so that the kite can fly higher. We will also use material that wont be wasted so that we can win the most Eco-friendly kite. There are many amazing sections to win but these two are the ones that we are going to focus on the most.#1 Our first goal is to deplete waste we will do this by planning and picking items carefully.#2  second goal  is to make sure to implement every body's ideas we will do this by listening to each other and respect each others opinions.#3 the third goal is we will try to focus on our project and not play around and we will do this by ignoring unrelated comments and find relivent  things to intrege us.These are our goals as a group.

Our Theme - Pamela

Omg!!! they're here we finally got what we wanted!!! Oops sorry you don't know what I'm talking about well my group and I chose our theme. Wait!! let me guess your wondering what could our theme be well it is...... MINIONS!!! Are you trying to figure out why we chose minions as our theme well it's because we want the people who are watching us fly our kite to laugh and smile. The purpose of this theme is for entertainment it also represents happiness. What I mean by happiness is that if you have seen the movie than you know how this makes you laugh so much and it makes your day.If you have seen the movie then you know what I'm talking about. So maybe you might enjoy watching our kite fly in the air. Thank You for taking your time and reading this and enjoy every day of updating because we will show you more
                                                             .

Our Theme!!! - Jaselle

Omg!!!!!!!! .These yellow little things that look like talking twinkies, there so cute.Everyone loves them and what they do. The good ones are yellow but the
purple ones are the bad ones. They help Gru finish his missions and everything that needs to be done. Can you guess who im talking about? NO? Keep guesing!!
Still don't know? FINE,ill tell you,our theme is......Despicable Me 2. Our group chose Despicable Me 2 as our theme because we wanted the reader to have a smile on their face at all times while reading. We figured that if we did something totally different we are sure to win in a unique catagory. But don't think we did that kind of theme just to win in a unique catagory,we also did this theme because we want to see everyones face when our Minion is flying in the air. Another reason we chose this theme is because our whole group enjoys watching the movie and talking about it. One last reason is because the Minions connect to our life in the real world. For example theres people who make good choices and others who make the wrong and bad choices. What do I mean you ask? I mean even though the Minions are not real, the creators make it seem like the good people in our world are the yellow minions and the not so good people in our world are the purple minions.

Our Theme!!! - Trent

Minion Time!!! Our team decided to choose the theme "minion-squad kites" because we wanted to choose a topic that made people smile and enjoy seeing our kite. Also because in the movie it has a good story that makes people just have a good time. The movie in our opinion is the type that is made for the feel good purpose. For example in the movie Despicable Me 2 the cute little minions do a lot of things that make people have a good time.

Our Theme!!! - Gabriel

Despicable Me,we picked this theme because it is so much different compared to every thing else and it is a popular and distinct movie,it also shows how team work can help in many ways and most of the time help, every one.It shows that you can do many things and this is why we picked it.It also shows me that being different is not always a bad thing.Since the movie is so different
